The Holden Monaro is a rear-wheel-drive coupé produced by General Motors Holden in Australia from 1968 until 1975, then from 2001 to 2005. From 1973 to 1977, it was also available as a four-door saloon. The Monaro coupe has been built in three generations: the first from 1968 to 1971 covered the HK, HT, and HG series, the second from 1971 to 1975 covered the HQ and HJ series, and the third from 2001 to 2005 covered the V2 and VZ series. In 1970 and 1971, General Motors South Africa produced the first generation Monaro coupe in Holden Monaro GTS and Chevrolet SS models, using CKD kits imported from Australia. The third-generation Monaro coupe was built not just for domestic use in Australia but also for export as the Chevrolet Lumina (Middle East), Vauxhall Monaro (UK), and Pontiac GTO (USA). From 2001 until 2006, HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) 'remanufactured' the third generation in Australia, selling it as a line of HSV-badged high-performance versions sans the Monaro label.
